Beyond Visual Consumption

In 2003 Bellissimo took part to the Biennale of Lisbona —it was the first time— with a video installation on the role of visual designers.

At the opening of the event, a bag of candy was offered to all designers, who usually take themselves too seriously. The eight-page booklet describing Bellissimo’s projects for ExperimentaDesign already embodied the irreverent and surrealistic nature of the Italian participation in the Bienniale of Lisbon.

During ExperimentaDesign 2003, the group also presented "Four items for the four elements", an installation of four objects that raised the relationship between design, fashion and everyday tools to the next level.
With “Beyond Visual Consumption”, the group made the audience of designers reflect on their role as producers of images, which are picked from the "limbo of ideas" and brought to life for being used and consumed as everyday objects: does creativity produce waste like any other good? What will it be of all the rejected ideas? How should we look after them?
