images from the future of palermo
Bellissimo participated in the Airbnb initiative to redevelop two areas of Palermo, visualising the projects proposed by citizens.
Airbnb chose to finance two urban regeneration projects in the neighbourhoods of Ballarò and Danisinni, allocating part of the tourism taxes it collects through its platform.
It is the first time that the company (which in Italy has its third largest market in the world) launches such an initiative: an experimental path of civic participation, which aims to promote a more sustainable tourism.
The studio has actively contributed to the project with its experience in communicating the themes of urban change, consolidated through projects such as Torino Stratosferica.
After the public meetings in Palermo coordinated by BiPart to help the groups to present their ideas in view of the first selection, our studio visualised and displayed the 6 finalist projects citizens would vote for online.
Photographs of the places of intervention are combined with illustrations by Federica Del Proposto, showing the different proposals in the simplest, clearest and most vivid way possible.
Ballarò's projects (in order of votes):
Create an outdoor theater, reclaiming a landfill
THE BALLARÒ LIGHTHOUSE
A new pedestrian square, to attract life in the neighbourhood
The road that wants to be a garden: a new door to the neighbourhood
